1. Yes your monstera is edible.
1.1 Delicious Monstera Deliciosa fruit.
Monstera Deliciosa is sometimes called "Fruit Salad Plant" in English because the fruit of the Monstera tastes a bit like just about every delicious fruit that exists. Strawberry, banana, mango, guava, passion fruit and pineapple are all flavors that are attributed to this fruit.
The downside is that it takes at least 10 months for the fruit of the Monstera Deliciosa to be ripe. However there is some risk involved, if you eat unripe fruit, it can burn seriously in your throat. The fruit is ripe when the scale on the outside starts to come loose and the inside turns yellow like a banana.
Unfortunately, the Monstera Deliciosa fruit is not easy to get in northern Europe. Your best chance is to go to a country where it grows and look around at local markets. If you really have something for it and you know how to pass customs, you can order your own box for a $ 144 dollar from a Miami grower.
1.2 Delicious Monstera Deliciosa leaves
Okay, not that delicious maybe but you can still eat it. The reason that an unripe Monstera Deliciosa fruit hurts because it contains Calcium Oxalate. There is more of it in the leaves. So if you or your cat eats from your Monstera, it won't be deadly, but it will hurt a lot. It will also get stomach cramps and diarrhea. If you boil the leaves completely or dry them, the Calcium Oxalate disappears and so the leaves become edible however we don't know if it is yummy or not. Do not try Monstera leaves without first obtaining further information from a nutritionist!
2. Yes, your Monstera can heal.
If eating Monstera fruit and leaves is not enough for you, we can make you happy with two other applications. The first use is for arthritis: Monstera Deliciosa is used in Mexico to relieve arthritis. The second use is with the preparation of the aerial roots and is used in Martinique to care for snake bites.
