How to propagate a Monstera. It’s easy!
Once you have a Monstera and know how to treat it well, it is time to make more plants. In this blog, we tell you everything there is to know to propagate your Monstera Deliciosa. And that’s not much because it’s super easy to do!
Let’s go!
This is a sub-article of our Ultimate Monstera Guide, click here to learn everything else about Monsteras.
1. How to propagate a Monstera from cuttings.
Take a cutting from the mother plant by cutting off a leaf just below the aerial root. You can do this all year but it works best during the growing season. Then place this cutting in water until new roots emerge from the aerial root or stem You can also cut without air the root but then it takes a little longer and the chance of success is less. If there are enough roots you can plant the cutting in soil. However, you can also leave it in water for a long time. Change the water from time to time and add a drop of food now and then.
2. How to propagate a Monstera from seed.
You can also grow a Monstera from seed. If you are lucky and you have a flowering Monstera, wait for the fruit to ripen and use the seed from the flower. If not buy it from a store. Seed from a Monstera is quite easy to get, but it doesn’t have a long shelf life: the sooner you plant it, the better.
First, allow the seeds to soak 12 hours in lukewarm water. The seeds should swell a bit. Then plant the seed in a little soil and keep the soil moist. It helps if you do this in a warm room, but you don’t need much light so don’t put it in direct sunlight. A juvenile Monstera first starts growing to the darkness anyway. After 10 days to three weeks, a small sapling will emerge from the soil. It will take quite a while before it gets the typical fenestrated leaves!.

My Monstera is about 6 feet tall and single stem with about eight large leaves. I know that I can remove the top leaves to propagate another plant but will the main plant eventually get side growth? My ceiling height is restricted but there’s plenty of room for side growth. I would hate to damage the plant as I’ve had it for years and is like a family member. Thanks in advance for any response.

Can I add tow Monstera plants in the same pot so its much fuller

Kelvin same was situation with my plant which touched the ceiling two years ago, I kept it pulling down , now a barren stem has circled and aerial part full of leaves touched ceiling. Now three leaves down below the aerial root , about 2-3 inches of stem is covered with wet soil in plastic ( aerial rooting), hopefully after 2 or so month when roots emerge , cut off and grow in another pot, pull up the stem if needed or new side branches be turned along ceiling or let them spread . So many options but depends how it goes along.
My plant is in semi shaded corner, change pot 2 sizes up after 2-3 years, water to moist , spray for humidity once a month. Liquid food dilute twice month in summer. Mostly sprinkle or dissolve 2 table spoon of Epsom salt once month, this keeps leaves green and remedy for turning brown, excess amount has no harm . Good luck

Yes, I have done so, but pot must bigger size,

I’m currently growing three seedlings. All planted at the same time with various stages of growth. They don’t seem to be doing to well at the time; they aren’t growing as fast and seem a little wilted. I don’t know if they need more water or less sun. Currently, they’re facing my east window.

I have figured out some essential things through your blog post post. One other thing I would like to talk about is that there are plenty of games available and which are designed particularly for toddler age youngsters. They include things like pattern acceptance, colors, pets, and shapes. These normally focus on familiarization in lieu of memorization. This helps to keep little kids engaged without having the experience like they are studying. Thanks

I’m impressed, I have to admit. Rarely do I come across a blog that’s both educative and interesting, and let me tell you, you have hit the nail on the head. The problem is something that not enough men and women are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy that I came across this during my hunt for something regarding this.
